This week is packed with celestial events and seasonal celebrations. Several of our celebrations this week are based on the Lunar calendar. The first one is Fat Tuesday. This is last day of carnival events that began after epiphany and last until Ash Wednesday. Fat Tuesday for many religious people is the last day to eat rich, fatty food before the traditional 40 days of fasting before Easter, we know as Lent.
Wednesday is the Ash Wednesday or the first day of Lent. Wednesday is also Valentines Day. Thursday is the New Moon and Solar Eclipse. And Friday is another Lunar based holiday, the Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the Earth Dog.
The Sun is in its last week of Aquarius and next Sunday moves into Pisces. Enjoy this last week of knowledge, originality, and innovation before moving to the illusiveness of Pisces.
Mercury will leave Aquarius this coming Saturday and move to Pisces where he will wait on the Sun to arrive the next day. Mercury in Pisces will lead our thoughts to be more visual and intuitive. We can expect our imagination to also be high. Emotions will be in the spotlight and affect our communications and our thoughts.
Venus was ahead of the Sun and Mercury in moving into Pisces. She switched signs on February 10, 2018. This move will cause our planet of love to become an equal opportunity planet of love and understanding. Most of us have at least ourselves to forgive. This will be a great transit for doing this.
This Venus/Pisces transit will be a rather seductive one too. This reminds me of a song called “Meet Me With Your Black Drawers On” by Jeannie and Jimmy Cheatham. Venus in Pisces is tender and affectionate. So get that sexy outfit on and make the best of this energy.
Venus in Pisces can be a bit hard to reach simply because she has an itch she can’t seem to scratch. She wants something that is hard to describe or to fulfill. This could make for a great Valentines Day. The shadow side of this is being elusive or allowing ourselves to be a victim.
Mars continues his tour of Sagittarius. Our ideals drive us. We could also become restless when we feel closed in or confined in some way. When we set our sights high, we run the risk of abandoning a project or losing our motivation before we finish a project.
Saturn is in Capricorn and Jupiter is in Scorpio. Uranus is in the last five degrees of Aries. He is revving up to change signs in May and as you might already know, the last degrees of any sign can be interesting. Uranus rules weather, electricity, the future, and technology. Uranus also breaks rules and brings sudden change. He is often called rebellious, independent, and unconventional. Yes! That is me in a nutshell.
The aspects this week are many. First up in Monday when Mars aspects Uranus. This energy will cause with strong Uranus influence in their charts to feel unsatisfied. Those persons will lean more toward impulsive decisions without considering the outcome.
Monday also Mercury semi-square Saturn. If you find yourself having to re-do something blame this aspect. Getting from one place to another and delays with emails, or other communications are likely. This will be over soon so don’t get frustrated. Just ride this wave.
Tuesday Mercury will square Jupiter. Jupiter will be expanding our communications, possibly to the point of overload. This is not a good time to traveler bringing others over to our way of thinking.
Also on Tuesday, the Sun will sextile Uranus. This is a good time for meetings, joining groups or organizations, and social events. Remember to remain flexible and take advantage of the creative solutions that we might find.
Wednesday Venus is semi-square Pluto. Social interactions could be a bit tense.
Jealousy and possessiveness could make this a difficult time to start a new relationship. Manipulations, romantic disappointments, and power plays could make romance less than enjoyable. Not the best of aspects for Valentine’s Day but now that you know what to look for maybe you will have no romantic problems.
Thursday Mercury aspects Uranus. This is another good aspect for meetings and other organized group events. This aspect is also great for anything that involves computers, science or metaphysics. Intuitive insights might seem to come from nowhere. Creativity and intuition run high and assist us in solving problems in new, inventive ways.
Thursday also brings Venus sextile Saturn. Relationships are steady and stable. You may find you get support or advice from an older person. It is also possible that you hear from an old friend.
There are no major aspects on Friday but Saturday has two for us. The first one is Mars square, Neptune. Look for guidance from unusual places. You might find it difficult to stay centered and organized. Intuition can be strong but avoid new projects or new dealings.
Mercury will be conjunct the Sun on Saturday. Our desires and thoughts are in agreement. Communications will be sharp and open. This is a great time for problem-solving and our words, both written and spoken carry weight.
The last thing I want to talk about is the Chinese New Year. I’ve been thinking about the New Year’s recipe in the cookbook I published last year.
Chinese astrology is based on a lunar calendar so the first day of any year is never the same day like Christmas, Valentines or Halloween. If your birthday is near the end of Jan or early February, you could find your sign is actually in the previous year rather than the current one.
This is the year of the Earth Dog and is the first one since 1958. Dogs are loyal, honest, kind and very sincere. They are not great communicators, however. They have trouble saying what is on their mind. This can give an observer the impression they are stubborn.
Dogs tend to need a quiet life with a good family. They are seldom focused on the evils or ugliness of the world. They put their own interests after the needs of others and always surprised when they are betrayed or hurt.
When Dogs are in the throes of doubt, they see the world as complex and evil. This often leads to a pessimistic perspective. Conversely, what we can expect this year is quite interesting.
Many predict that those who show kindness and generosity to others will see the most benefit this year. The Dog represents integrity and equality. Many are expecting this year to bring positive change for everyone. This includes social awareness and action. The Chinese view the Dog as a fortunate symbol that has the potential for bringing peace.
I sure hope that last part is true. I also wish you a great week ahead and as always, don’t forget to be kind to all you meet and smile.
