Welcome to February! Puxatawny Phil come out every February 2nd to predict when spring will arrive. According to the legend, if he sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of winter. Phil did see his shadow and has gone back to his winter’s nap for another six weeks.
The U.S. weather forecast for this week seems to echo Phil’s prediction as the folks Texas to New England are bracing for yet another big winter storm. This has been winter of extremes all over the country. Last week cold winter temps and weather were seen as far south as Florida. I saw a video of folks sliding around on the frozen beach in Pensacola, Fla. That doesn’t happen very often.
Astrologically February could feel a big slow to you. All the inner planets that usually zip through the zodiac have either changed direction or are about to. Venus went direct last Friday, Mercury is stationing to turn retro grade this Thursday and Mars is stationing to go retrograde March 1, 2014.
To clog the works even more, these three plants are transiting what could be called their “polar opposite” signs. Mercury which is usually mentally astute is transiting dreamy, fuzzy Pisces. Venus, that planet of love and friendship is transiting the stiff, business like Capricorn. And last we have Mars which is all about taking action, transiting the easy going, let’s view things from all sides and take our time to find balance sign of Libra.
This week the big news is Mercury retrograde. This will happen on Thursday the 6th. Many of us should be feeling this as of February 2nd when he enters his shadow or storm period as some call it. This is the first of three Mercury retrograde periods in 2014. The other two will be in June and Oct.
People tend to get freaked out when Mercury goes retrograde. Things like communications can indeed get wonky but I refer to see this as a time to rest and regroup. This is a great time to take a break, sit back and review the options. The way things are changing fast, this seems to me to be a great time to recreate your personal space. Do some redecorating or rearranging of things here and there. I know I have a laundry list of things to do.
Besides personal and business mis-communication issues, Mercury retro grade can bring travel delays and mix ups. Our winter weather can do this too. I don’t think it takes meteorologist to predict the probable delays across the country thanks to the current storm forecast. Electronics and mechanical equipment can break down. Remember, this is a time to relax not get anxious. Look at these delays as the Universe’s way of allowing you to chill out, rest and recuperate. One of my friends was in Las Vegas last week on business. She got sick while she was there and said she one of many. I also hear the winter viruses this year are zapping energy and it’s taking a long time for them to get their energy back. Use this retrograde period to heal or rest and boost the immune system to prevent illness.
Mercury changed signs and moved into Pisces on January 31st . We could notice being more visual and creative. This sign change to Pisces will bring color to our communication style too. We will be more inclined to make decisions based on our intuition. This can be frightening to some but I feel like it is something we would do well to develop as a normal way of doing things.
If you have read my series on retrograde you know that retrograde mean planets go back over the celestial territory they have just covered. Mercury will be going back in to where it was on the 22nd of January before it turns directs again. Until he backtracks into Aquarius you could feel reflective, meditative and day dream a bit more. Once he tracks to Aquarius our thoughts might become more intellectual, more concerned with humanity and the future of the collective. Of course all this or the depth to which a person is affected by these things is greatly affected by the natal chart.
Venus has about one more month before she changes signs. The focus while she is in Capricorn is still on business relationships and finances. You will be wanting to take advantage of this last month’s worth of energy aimed at helping you create those relationships that will be supportive of our goals.
I should also mention the Venus and Pluto are conjunct all week. This means change for many relationships. Many people are coming to decisions to release and let go of those that no longer serve. On the other hand some relationships will grow stronger and become more solid.
As we move on into February this creativity, heightened intuition and dreamy, foggy, fussy mindedness will continue when the Sun joins Neptune in Pisces. By this time Mercury will be in retrograde in Aquarius and hopefully our heads won’t be too fuzzy with all the dreamy Pisces energy.
That is about all I have for this week. Stay safe and warm. Hopefully there will be no more wild events like we say last week on the roads in Atlanta. It might not be a bad idea to get one of those emergency blankets, a shovel, water, paper towels and snacks in your car. You never know when you might need them.
