The retrograde theme continues in 2014
The beginning of every New Year is full of wonder, dreams, hopes and expectations. People write resolutions with the intention they will bring positive effect on the coming year. Many wish for a crystal ball to to gaze into. Astrology and Numerology are the two methods of understanding and predicting that have the test of time on their side. The earliest record of astrology goes back to 1645 BC. Numerology goes back to 500 BC yet they are considered “occult” and therefore tabooed.
Occult simply means hidden from view. Your jewelry is occult in its jewelry box. So is your car when it’s in the garage. Merriam-Webster defines occult as: “to shut off from view or exposure.” Wikipedia says: “The term is sometimes taken to mean knowledge that “is meant only for certain people” or that “must be kept hidden”, but for most practicing occultists it is simply the study of a deeper spiritual reality that extends beyond pure reason and the physical sciences.”
A study of history reveals many things have been occult or hidden from view over the centuries. Today we take hings like the Bible for granted because it is so accessible. We forget that it was once only priests and clergymen were allowed to read it. It was hidden from view of the common citizen.
I have had a fascination for the “occult” for most of my life. In the past year I have taken my exploration of astrology deeper. And while nothing and no one can predict anything with 100% accuracy, I now understand how astrology can give us an idea of what is coming as far away as we wish to look. All the world is an energy vibration that is reflected in Astrology.
Looking ahead at 2104, I am keeping in mind that we have just past the halfway point of the three year square dance between Uranus and Pluto. This is a very difficult aspect and lasts from 2012 to 2015. These two planets will be exactly square seven times during this period. In between the exact squares they will still be close enough to exact to give us the powerful energy effects of the square aspect if known for. Here is a list of the actual square aspect dates:
- June 24, 2012
- Sept. 19, 2012
- May 20, 2013
- Nov. 1, 2013
- April 21, 2014
- Dec. 14, 2014
- March 16, 2015
Recently I wrote a series about retrograde planets. Looking forward, the 2014 ephemeris tells me Mars will be turning retrograde in Libra on March 1-May 20, 2014. We are also in the middle and peak time of the three year period where Uranus squares Pluto. You can see in the list above that the fourth actual square between these two will be on April 21st. This date is just a wee bit more than half way through Mars’ retrograde cycle. Uranus and Pluto are not going to be more that about two degrees from absolute square during Mars entire retrograde cycle.
Oh dear! What does all this mean?
In order to understand how the retrograde and square aspect can affect us, we need to know the characteristics of the individual components. I wrote about Uranus and Pluto last fall. You can find that in the archives for 2012.
Mars rules Aries and Scorpio. This is the planet of doing and full of energy passion and drive. He is headstrong, brave, courageous, and gets all fired up when you are attacked. He is adventurous, passionate, valiant and full of action. He motivates us to reach or goals and realize our dreams.
Mars, the god of war, is our ego, individuality, initiative, motivation, and libido; He is our survival instinct, rules the military, weapons, combativeness, sports, competition, and mechanical prowess. In the body Mars governs the male genitals, muscles, red corpuscles, nose and excretory tract. Where ever Mars resides in a chart is where energy is directed and released. In the female chart, Mars represents her picture of masculine energy.
Its good idea to know where is in your natal chart. It can tell you a lot about how you handle this basic energy. It can also tell you if Mars or any other planet was retrograde when you were born. Most of us have at least one retrograde planet in our chart and most of us have 2 or more. Those of us with Mars retrograde in the natal chart won’t be affected the same way as the rest of us when Mars turns retrograde on March 1st.
I think this is a good place to stop for now. I’ve given you a lot of info to consider. We will begin next time with a review of the Uranus and Pluto. I wrote about these two last fall. You can find them in the archives.
